Chapter 6: The Fatal Accident

プラザホテルでの対決の後、ギャツビーとデイジーはギャツビーの黄色い車で一緒に帰宅した。トムの愛人であるマートル・ウィルソンは車が近づいてくるのを見て、トムが自分のところに戻ってきたのだと信じて道路に飛び出した。運転していたギャツビーは間に合うように止まることができず、マートルをはねて即死させてしまった。

After the confrontation at the Plaza Hotel, Gatsby and Daisy drove home together in Gatsby's yellow car. Myrtle Wilson, Tom's mistress, saw the car approaching and ran into the road, believing it was Tom returning to her. Gatsby, who was driving, could not stop in time and struck Myrtle, killing her instantly.
