Chapter 6: Test of Love

友人たちの懸念にもかかわらず、ドラとの関係は急速に進展しました。彼女は私が女の子に魅力を感じるすべてのものでした。美しく、遊び心があり、愛情深かったです。しかし、彼女は家事や将来の計画など、現実的なことにはまったく興味がありませんでした。

My relationship with Dora progressed quickly, despite the concerns of my friends. She was everything I found attractive in a girl—beautiful, playful, and affectionate. However, she was completely uninterested in anything practical, such as housekeeping or planning for the future.

Mr. Spenlow, Dora's father, strongly disapproved of our relationship. He wanted his daughter to marry someone wealthy and established, not a struggling young writer like me.
