Chapter 3: The Night of the Murder

暑い夏の夜、ラスコリニコフは質屋にやって来ました。彼は斧で老婆を襲い、殺しました。彼が立ち去ろうとしたちょうどその時、老婆の妹リザヴェータが突然入ってきました。

On a hot summer night, Raskolnikov came to the pawnshop. He attacked the old woman with an axe and killed her. Just as he was about to leave, the old woman's sister Lizaveta suddenly entered.

リザヴェータはこの光景を見て、ラスコリニコフは彼女も殺さなければなりませんでした。彼はいくつかの持ち物を奪い、パニックに陥って現場から逃げました。

Lizaveta saw this scene, and Raskolnikov had to kill her too. He took some belongings and fled the scene in panic.

ラスコリニコフが人を殺したのはこれが初めてでした。彼の心は恐怖と罪悪感で満たされていました。しかし、彼はまだ自分のしたことが正しいと信じていました。

This was Raskolnikov's first time killing someone. His heart was filled with fear and guilt. But he still believed that what he did was correct.
