Chapter 6: Return to St. Petersburg

アンナはサンクトペテルブルクの家に戻りました。彼女は普通の生活に戻ろうとしましたが、ヴロンスキーの姿が常に彼女の心に浮かびました。カレーニンは妻がまだ落ち着かないことに気づき、何かが起こっていると疑い始めました。

Anna returned to her home in St. Petersburg. She tried to return to normal life, but Vronsky's figure always appeared in her mind. Karenin noticed that his wife was still restless, and he began to suspect that something was happening.

ヴロンスキーはアンナを追ってサンクトペテルブルクに行くことにしました。彼はアンナの社交の場に頻繁に現れ、彼女に再び会うことを望んでいました。カレーニンはヴロンスキーのアンナへの注目を見て、脅威を感じ始めました。

Vronsky decided to follow Anna to St. Petersburg. He often appeared at Anna's social occasions, hoping to see her again. Karenin saw Vronsky's attention to Anna and began to feel threatened.

アンナは増大するプレッシャーを感じていました。一方では、彼女は夫に忠実であり続けたいと思っていました。他方では、彼女はヴロンスキーへの愛を抑えることができませんでした。この内的葛藤は彼女を非常に苦しめました。

Anna felt increasing pressure. On one hand, she wanted to remain loyal to her husband; on the other hand, she couldn't suppress her love for Vronsky. This internal conflict made her very painful.
