清朝末期、外国勢力が中国に深く浸透し始めました。不平等条約を通じて、強力な国々はさまざまな特権を獲得し、中国の経済と政治においてますます重要な役割を果たしました。

In the late years of the Qing Dynasty, foreign powers began to penetrate deeply into China. Through unequal treaties, the powerful nations obtained various privileges and played an increasingly important role in China's economy and politics.

旅の間、老残は外国の影響のさまざまな側面を見ました。外国商人は中国の貿易を独占し、外国製品が市場に溢れました。多くの地元商人が破産し、職人は生計を失いました。

During his journey, Lao Can saw various aspects of foreign influence. Foreign merchants monopolized China's trade, and foreign goods flooded the market. Many local merchants went bankrupt, and handicraftsmen lost their livelihoods.

外国の影響は政治にも反映されました。さまざまな手段を通じて、強力な国々は中国の内政に干渉し、朝廷の決定に影響を与えました。これは中国の主権に深刻な損害を与えました。

Foreign influence was also reflected in politics. Through various means, the powerful nations interfered in China's internal affairs, influencing the decisions of the imperial court. This caused serious damage to China's sovereignty.

老残はまた、外国文化の影響も見ました。一部の中国人は外国語を学び、西洋の思想やライフスタイルを受け入れ始めました。この文化的衝突は中国社会に深刻な変化をもたらしました。

Lao Can also saw the influence of foreign culture. Some Chinese people began learning foreign languages and accepting Western thoughts and lifestyles. This cultural collision brought about profound changes in Chinese society.

However, foreign influence also brought problems. Many foreigners bullied Chinese people and enjoyed privileges. This inequality made the Chinese people feel angry and humiliated.
