Chapter 14: The Decline of Shu Han

諸葛亮の死後、蜀漢は衰退期に入った。劉禅が皇帝として後を継いだが、彼は無能で、国を効果的に統治することができなかった。蜀漢の軍事と政治の実権は宦官の黄皓の手に落ちた。

After Zhuge Liang's death, Shu Han entered a period of decline. Although Liu Shan succeeded as emperor, he was incompetent and incapable of effectively governing the country. Shu Han's military and political power fell into the hands of the eunuch Huang Hao.

黄皓は貪欲で裏切り者の宦官であった。彼は権力を利用して民衆の富を搾取し、庶民の恨みを買った。彼はまた、忠実で有能な人々を排除し、才能のある人々を陥れ、蜀漢の人材プールをますます枯渇させた。

Huang Hao was a greedy and treacherous eunuch. He used his power to exploit the people's fat and cream, causing the common people to be full of resentment. He also excluded loyal and worthy people and framed those with talent, causing Shu Han's talent pool to become increasingly scarce.

蜀漢の経済も衰退し始めた。長年の戦争は蜀漢の活力を大いに損ない、経済は回復できなかった。さらに、黄皓の搾取は民衆の生活をさらに困難にした。

Shu Han's economy also began to decline. Years of war had greatly damaged Shu Han's vitality, and the economy could not recover. Additionally, Huang Hao's exploitation made the people's lives even more difficult.

軍事的にも、蜀漢はかつての優位性を失った。姜維は蜀漢の軍隊を維持するために懸命に働いたが、彼の能力は諸葛亮にはるかに及ばず、魏に対抗することはできなかった。蜀漢の領土は魏によって絶えず侵食された。

Militarily, Shu Han also lost its former advantages. Although Jiang Wei worked hard to maintain Shu Han's army, his abilities were far inferior to Zhuge Liang's, and he could not contend with Wei. Shu Han's territory was continuously encroached upon by Wei.

蜀漢の衰退は多くの識者を苦しませた。彼らはかつて諸葛亮に従い、漢王朝の復興を望んでいたが、今や蜀漢は衰退の運命を覆すことができなかった。この無力感は彼らを絶望させた。

The decline of Shu Han made many knowledgeable people feel pained. They had once followed Zhuge Liang and hoped to restore the Han Dynasty, but now Shu Han was already unable to reverse the fate of decline. This sense of powerlessness made them feel despair.

最終的に、蜀漢は魏によって滅ぼされた。劉禅は降伏し、魏の捕虜となった。蜀漢の滅亡は、三国時代の終わりが近いことを示した。

Ultimately, Shu Han was destroyed by Wei. Liu Shan surrendered and became a prisoner of Wei. The fall of Shu Han marked the imminent end of the Three Kingdoms era.
