Chapter 6: Run Tu the Villager

ルントゥがついに到着しました。

Run Tu finally arrived.

私は彼を見ましたが、ほとんど彼だと認識できませんでした。彼はすり切れた綿のジャケットを着ており、顔はしわで覆われ、目は疲れ切っているように見えました。彼の手は荒れており、たこで覆われていました。これらは長年労働してきた手でした。

I looked at him, almost unable to recognize him. He was wearing a worn-out cotton jacket, his face covered with wrinkles, and his eyes looked exhausted. His hands were rough, covered with calluses. These were hands that had labored for years.

彼が私を見ると、顔に笑みが浮かび、言いました。「若旦那様、お戻りになられましたか。」

When he saw me, a smile appeared on his face, saying, "Young Master, you're back."

私は微笑んで言いました。「ルントゥ、来てくれたんだね。入って座って。」

I smiled and said, "Run Tu, you've come. Come in and sit down."

彼は部屋に入り、椅子に座りました。母が彼にお茶を持ってきました。彼はうやうやしく茶碗を受け取り、言いました。「ありがとうございます、奥様。」

He walked into the room and sat on a chair. Mother brought him tea. He respectfully took the teacup and said, "Thank you, Madam."

私は彼を見て、とても悲しくなりました。これがまだあの生き生きとしたルントゥなのか？これがまだ瓜畑を走っていたルントゥなのか？彼は今、こんなに年を取り、こんなに無口になってしまった。

I looked at him, feeling very sad. Is this still the lively Run Tu? Is this still the Run Tu who ran in the melon fields? He has now become so old, so silent.
