Chapter 2: Winter Scenes

私が今回故郷に戻ったのは、引っ越しをする必要があり、すべてを売らなければならなかったからです。

I returned to my hometown this time because we needed to move, and everything had to be sold.

母はルントゥが来たと言いました。これは私を幸せにしました。私は彼の名前を覚えていました、まるで彼がまだ若くて生き生きしているかのように。彼はかつて私の親友でした。私たちは一緒に瓜畑で遊び、一緒にアナグマを捕まえ、一緒に川で泳ぎました。

Mother told me that Run Tu had come. This made me happy. I remembered his name, as if he were still young and lively. He was once my good friend. We played together in the melon fields, caught badgers together, and swam in the river together.

今、彼は三十歳を過ぎており、妻と子供がいます。母は、彼の生活は今とても苦しいと言いました。私たちの家族は引っ越すので、彼は私たちを手伝いに来ました。

Now, he is over thirty years old, with a wife and children. Mother said his life is very difficult now. Our family is moving, and he has come to help us.

私は外の冬を見て、過去の夏について考えました。その時、私たちはいつも楽しく遊んでいて、人生の苦労を知りませんでした。

I looked at the winter outside, thinking about the summers of the past. At that time, we always played happily, unaware of the hardships of life.
