Chapter 19: The Lesson

起こったすべてのことを振り返り、私はこの旅の教訓を理解し始めた。エイハブ船長は、復讐への願望が自分自身と周囲の全員を破壊することを許してしまった。彼の執着は人生そのものよりも重要になっていた。

As I reflected on everything that had happened, I began to understand the lesson of this journey. Captain Ahab had let his desire for revenge destroy him and everyone around him. His obsession had become more important than life itself.

白い鯨、モビー・ディックは本当に邪悪ではなかった。それは自然の生き物であり、強力で危険だが、悪意はなかった。悪はエイハブの心の中にあり、起こったことを受け入れて前に進むことができないことにあった。

The white whale, Moby Dick, was not truly evil. It was a creature of nature, powerful and dangerous, but not malicious. The evil had been in Ahab's heart, in his inability to accept what had happened and move on.

私は、どんなに望んでも、追求する価値のない目標があることを学んだ。欲望が私たちを支配する執着になるとき、私たちは自分自身と愛する人々を破壊する危険を冒すことになる。

I learned that some goals are not worth pursuing, no matter how much we want them. When our desires become obsessions that control us, we risk destroying ourselves and those we love.
