Chapter 8: Emma's Recovery

数ヶ月の病気の後、エマはゆっくりと回復し始めました。チャールズは安堵し、彼女を元気づけるためにルーアンの劇場に連れて行くなど、彼女の世話に専念しました。彼はこの環境の変化が彼女が悲しみを忘れるのに役立つことを期待していました。

After months of illness, Emma slowly began to recover. Charles was relieved and devoted himself to her care, taking her to the theater in Rouen to lift her spirits. He hoped that this change of scenery would help her forget her sadness.

ルーアンで、エマは偶然レオンに再会しました。その弁護士も街に引っ越しており、二人は再会しました。エマは、レオンに対する自分の感情が以前と同じくらい強いことに驚きました。

In Rouen, Emma met Leon again by chance. The lawyer had also moved to the city, and the two were reunited. Emma was surprised to find that her feelings for Leon were as strong as they had been before.

Leon had matured during their years apart, but his feelings for Emma had not changed. He still loved her and regretted that he had never expressed his love when they had met in Yonville. Emma, seeking comfort and romance, responded to his attention.

Seeing Leon gave Emma a new sense of hope. Perhaps her life was not destined to be boring and empty after all. She began to imagine a new romance that would finally bring her the happiness she had always desired.
