Chapter 5: Growing Pains

成長するにつれて、私は新たな課題に直面しました。最も困難なことの1つは、アグネスの父、ウィックフィールド氏に関する事実の暴露でした。ウィックフィールド氏の事務所の事務員であるユライア・ヒープが、ゆっくりとウィックフィールド氏のビジネスを支配しようとしていました。ユライアは謙虚なふりをしていましたが、実際には非常に野心的で不誠実な、ずる賢く欺瞞的な男でした。

As I grew older, I faced new challenges. One of the most difficult was the revelation about Agnes's father, Mr. Wickfield. Uriah Heep, a clerk in Mr. Wickfield's office, was slowly taking control of Mr. Wickfield's business. Uriah was a slimy, deceitful man who pretended to be humble but was actually very ambitious and dishonest.

During this period, I also had to deal with my feelings for Dora. Dora was beautiful and charming, but rather spoiled and childish. Despite knowing we had very little in common, I fell deeply in love with her. The combination of personal and professional problems made this period of my life quite challenging.
