Chapter 10: Childhood Playmates

ルントゥの他にも、私には子供時代の遊び仲間がいました。

Besides Run Tu, I had other childhood playmates too.

私たちの隣に住んでいるリトル・バオという子供がいました。彼は私より二歳年下でしたが、とても賢かったです。私たちは一緒に学校に行き、一緒にゲームをしました。彼はいつも多くの新しいアイデアを持っていて、様々なゲームで私たちをリードしてくれました。

There was a child named Little Bao who lived next door to us. He was two years younger than me but very smart. We went to school together, played games together. He always had many new ideas and led us in playing various games.

また、ア・ニウという子供もいて、とても力持ちで、とても重い石を持ち上げることができました。私たちは石を持ち上げる競争をし、彼はいつも勝ちました。私は彼をうらやましく思い、自分も彼のように強くなれればいいのにと思いました。

There was also a child named A Niu who was very strong and could lift very heavy stones. We competed to lift stones, and he always won. I envied him, hoping I could be as strong as him too.

私たちはよく一緒に川へ釣りに行き、一緒に山へ果物を摘みに行き、一緒に野原でトンボを捕まえました。私たちの生活は幸福に満ちていて、何の心配もありませんでした。

We often went fishing by the river together, went picking fruit on the mountain together, and caught dragonflies in the fields together. Our lives were full of happiness, without any worries.

今、これらの友達はどこへ行ってしまったのでしょうか？リトル・バオは都会へ働きに行き、ア・ニウは農夫になりました。彼らの生活は楽ではありません。

Now, where have these friends gone? Little Bao went to work in the city, A Niu became a farmer. Their lives are not easy.

彼らのことを考えると、私は少し悲しくなります。

When I think of them, I feel a bit sad.
