Bloom wandered through Dublin's streets, deliberately avoiding his home. He knew what was happening there, knew that Molly and Boylan were together. The knowledge burned in his mind, but he refused to confront it directly.

He passed familiar landmarks, each one triggering memories. Here was where he had courted Molly years ago, young and hopeful. There was the shop where he had bought her gifts, trying to win her affection. Dublin was a map of his life, every street corner holding some significance.

A poster advertised a concert, and Bloom thought of Molly's singing career. She had a beautiful voice, could have been famous if circumstances had been different. But life had taken them down other paths, and now she sought fulfillment elsewhere.

The afternoon sun beat down on the pavement, making the city shimmer with heat. Bloom felt sweat trickling down his back, his collar growing damp. Time moved slowly, each minute an eternity. When could he safely return home?
