Bloom and Stephen walked through the quiet streets toward Bloom's home at 7 Eccles Street. The city was asleep now, the earlier chaos replaced by peaceful silence. Their footsteps echoed on the pavement, the only sound in the darkness.

"What is the meaning of it all?" Stephen asked, gesturing at the sky. "All those stars, all that space. What does it matter?"
