Chapter 12: Asking for Help

With no other options, Emma decided to ask Rodolphe for money. She still believed that he had loved her once, and she hoped that he would help her in her time of need. She traveled to his estate, her heart pounding with anxiety.

Desperate, Emma went to see Leon, but the young lawyer had no money either. He was deeply in debt himself and could not help Emma despite his love for her. Emma felt abandoned by both men who had promised her so much.
