Os Campos de Flores
Spring came to the moors, bringing new life and hope. Cathy and Hareton continued to meet secretly, their friendship growing stronger each day. They explored the hills and valleys around Wuthering Heights, finding beauty and peace in nature.
One day, they discovered an old field behind the house, overgrown with wild flowers. Cathy suggested they clean up the field and plant a garden. Hareton agreed eagerly, happy to have a project to work on with her.
They worked together every day, clearing away the weeds and planting flowers. Hareton was strong and hardworking, and Cathy was careful and artistic. As they worked, they talked and laughed, enjoying each other's company.
For the first time in many years, Wuthering Heights felt less dark and oppressive. The flowers brought color and life to the gray house, and Cathy and Hareton brought laughter and hope.
Heathcliff watched them with hatred. He did not want them to be happy. He had destroyed so many lives, and he wanted to destroy their happiness too.
Heathcliff os observava com ódio. Ele não queria que fossem felizes. Ele destruíra tantas vidas e queria destruir a felicidade deles também.
'Why do you spend time with that ignorant fool?' he asked Cathy one day. 'You are above him. You should not speak to him.'
Cathy stood up to him, something no one had dared to do for many years. 'Hareton is not a fool,' she said firmly. 'He is kind and hardworking, and he is learning to read and write. I am proud to be his friend.'
Heathcliff was shocked by her courage. He had not expected her to defend Hareton. For a moment, he was reminded of Catherine, who had also been proud and stubborn.
But the memory only made him angry. He hated Cathy because she looked like Catherine, yet she was not Catherine. He locked her in her room again, forbidding her from seeing Hareton.
But this time, Cathy was not afraid. She knew that Heathcliff could not break her spirit, just as he had not broken Hareton's. She would continue to see Hareton, and they would continue to find happiness together, despite Heathcliff's cruelty.
