Chapter 9: The Second Affair
Capítulo 9: O Segundo Caso
Emma's visits to Rouen became more frequent, always under the excuse of music lessons. In truth, she was meeting Leon for romantic afternoons. Their relationship became passionate, and Emma felt alive again as she had with Rodolphe.
Unlike Rodolphe, Leon seemed genuinely devoted to Emma. He wrote her long, poetic letters and planned their future together. Emma believed that Leon was different, that he truly loved her and would never hurt her as Rodolphe had.
However, Emma soon discovered that love in reality was very different from love in romantic novels. Her relationship with Leon became routine and predictable, lacking the excitement and danger that had made her affair with Rodolphe so thrilling.
Emma began to feel disappointed again. She had hoped that Leon would give her the perfect romantic happiness she had always dreamed of, but instead, she found that real love could be just as boring and ordinary as her married life.
