Capítulo 6: O Acidente Fatal

After the confrontation at the Plaza Hotel, Gatsby and Daisy drove home together in Gatsby's yellow car. Myrtle Wilson, Tom's mistress, saw the car approaching and ran into the road, believing it was Tom returning to her. Gatsby, who was driving, could not stop in time and struck Myrtle, killing her instantly.

Tom, who had been following in another car with Nick and Jordan, stopped at the scene and learned what had happened. He recognized Myrtle's body and realized that his affair with her had led to this tragic outcome. Despite knowing that Gatsby was driving, Tom told George Wilson that Gatsby was responsible, hoping to eliminate his rival.

The accident marked the beginning of the end for Gatsby. His dream of recapturing the past and winning Daisy back had led to death and destruction, and now he faced the consequences of his choices. The American Dream, which Gatsby had embodied so perfectly, had become a nightmare.
