Chapter 9: The Badger Incident
Capítulo 9: O Incidente do Texugo
I remember one year when we found a badger in the melon field.
Lembro-me de um ano em que encontrámos um texugo no campo de melões.
It was a hot afternoon, and we were cooling off in the melon shed. Suddenly, I saw a small black shadow moving in the melon field. I looked carefully and saw it was a badger, stealing our watermelons.
Era uma tarde quente e estávamos a refrescar-nos no barracão de melões. De repente, vi uma pequena sombra negra a mover-se no campo de melões. Olhei com atenção e vi que era um texugo, a roubar as nossas melancias.
I shouted, "Run Tu, there's a badger!"
Gritei: "Run Tu, há um texugo!"
Run Tu jumped up and said, "Chase it!"
Run Tu saltou e disse: "Apanha-o!"
We chased the badger, running all the way to the riverside. The badger jumped into the river and swam to the other side. We stood by the river, watching it run away.
Perseguimos o texugo, correndo até à beira do rio. O texugo saltou para o rio e nadou para o outro lado. Ficámos parados junto ao rio, a vê-lo fugir.
Run Tu said, "Tomorrow we'll come to catch it again."
Run Tu disse: "Amanhã viremos apanhá-lo outra vez."
The next day, we went to the melon field early to wait for the badger. We waited and waited, waited all day, but it didn't come. We were very disappointed, but there was nothing we could do.
No dia seguinte, fomos cedo para o campo de melões para esperar pelo texugo. Esperámos e esperámos, esperámos o dia todo, mas ele não veio. Ficámos muito desapontados, mas não havia nada que pudéssemos fazer.
Now when I think of this incident, I still smile. At that time, we were so innocent, so happy.
Agora, quando penso neste incidente, ainda sorrio. Naquela altura, éramos tão inocentes, tão felizes.
