Chapter 3: The Old House
Capítulo 3: A Casa Velha
Our old house had been empty for a long time. After Father passed away, Mother and I both moved to the city. Now, Mother is old too and wants to move to the city to live with me.
A nossa casa velha estava vazia há muito tempo. Depois de o pai falecer, a mãe e eu mudámo-nos ambos para a cidade. Agora, a mãe também é velha e quer mudar-se para a cidade para viver comigo.
The old house has fallen into disrepair. There are cracks in the walls, and the roof leaks. The courtyard is overgrown with wild grass, looking very desolate. I remember the days when our family lived here when I was a child. At that time, the old house was still new, and the courtyard was full of flowers.
A casa velha caiu em ruínas. Há fendas nas paredes e o telhado tem goteiras. O pátio está coberto de ervas daninhas, parecendo muito desolado. Lembro-me dos dias em que a nossa família vivia aqui quando eu era criança. Naquela altura, a casa velha ainda era nova e o pátio estava cheio de flores.
Mother said that selling the old house was for me to get married. I told Mother that I hadn't found a suitable person yet. Mother sighed and said she was getting old too and hoped I could start a family as soon as possible.
A mãe disse que vender a casa velha era para que eu me casasse. Eu disse à mãe que ainda não tinha encontrado a pessoa certa. A mãe suspirou e disse que ela também estava a envelhecer e esperava que eu pudesse constituir família o mais depressa possível.
I looked at the old house, feeling very sad. This is my home, the place where I grew up.
Olhei para a casa velha, sentindo-me muito triste. Esta é a minha casa, o lugar onde cresci.
