Chapter 17: Survival
제17장: 생존
Hours passed, then days. We floated on the coffin, alone in the vast ocean. The sun burned our skin, and thirst became a constant companion. We shared what little we had and talked of home to keep our spirits up.
몇 시간이 지나고 며칠이 지났다. 우리는 광활한 바다에 홀로 관 위에 떠 있었다. 태양은 우리 피부를 태웠고 갈증은 끊임없는 동반자가 되었다. 우리는 가진 얼마 안 되는 것을 나누고 기운을 북돋우기 위해 고향 이야기를 했다.
Queequeg used his knowledge of the sea to help us survive. He knew which birds meant land and how to catch small fish. Without his skills, I am certain we would have died in that endless water.

On the second day, a ship appeared on the horizon. We waved and shouted until we were seen, crying with relief as they approached to rescue us from the sea that had almost taken our lives.
이틀째 되던 날, 수평선에 배가 나타났다. 우리는 그들이 우리를 볼 때까지 손을 흔들고 소리쳤으며, 그들이 거의 우리 목숨을 앗아갈 뻔했던 바다에서 우리를 구조하기 위해 다가올 때 안도감에 눈물을 흘렸다.
