제7장: 사냥
The hunt for whales became our daily life. We spent hours scanning the horizon for signs of these magnificent creatures. When we found one, the entire ship came alive with activity and purpose.
고래 사냥은 우리의 일상이 되었다. 우리는 이 웅장한 생물들의 징후를 찾기 위해 수평선을 샅샅이 뒤지며 시간을 보냈다. 하나를 발견하면 배 전체가 활기와 목적의식으로 살아났다.
The work was dangerous and exhausting. Men were thrown from boats, injured by ropes and equipment, and sometimes lost to the sea. But the rewards were great. Each whale brought valuable oil and bones that would be sold for a high price.
일은 위험하고 지쳤다. 남자들은 보트에서 튕겨 나가고, 밧줄과 장비에 부상을 입고, 때로는 바다에서 실종되었다. 하지만 보상은 컸다. 각 고래는 높은 가격에 팔릴 귀중한 기름과 뼈를 가져왔다.
Despite the dangers, I felt alive in a way I never had before. The challenge of the hunt, the beauty of the ocean, and the companionship of the crew made every day meaningful.
위험에도 불구하고 나는 전에는 느껴보지 못한 방식으로 살아 있음을 느꼈다. 사냥의 도전, 바다의 아름다움, 그리고 선원들의 동료애는 매일을 의미 있게 만들었다.
