제5장: 삼고초려
After repeated failures, Liu Bei realized that the lack of talented people was the key reason he could not succeed. He heard that there was a wise man named Zhuge Liang in Longzhong, who was said to know astronomy above and geography below, possessing exceptional talents.
거듭된 실패 끝에 유비는 인재 부족이 성공할 수 없는 핵심 이유임을 깨달았다. 그는 융중에 제갈량이라는 현자가 있다는 소문을 들었는데, 그는 위로는 천문을 알고 아래로는 지리를 알며 뛰어난 재능을 가졌다고 했다.
Liu Bei decided to visit Zhuge Liang in person. Taking Guan Yu and Zhang Fei with him, he went to Longzhong three times. The first and second times, Zhuge Liang was away, and Liu Bei could only return empty-handed.
유비는 제갈량을 직접 방문하기로 결심했다. 관우와 장비를 데리고 그는 융중을 세 번 찾아갔다. 첫 번째와 두 번째는 제갈량이 부재중이라 유비는 빈손으로 돌아올 수밖에 없었다.

세 번째 방문에서 제갈량은 마침내 집에 있었다. 그는 낮잠을 자고 있었고, 유비는 차마 그를 방해할 수 없어 밖에서 기다렸다. 한참 뒤 제갈량이 잠에서 깼고, 유비의 정성에 깊이 감동했다.
Zhuge Liang talked with Liu Bei about the general situation of the realm and proposed the famous "Longzhong Plan." He suggested that Liu Bei first occupy Jingzhou and Yizhou, forming a pattern of dividing the realm into three parts. This strategy pointed out the direction for Liu Bei's progress.
제갈량은 유비와 천하의 정세에 대해 이야기하며 그 유명한 "융중대"를 제안했다. 그는 유비에게 먼저 형주와 익주를 점령하여 천하를 셋으로 나누는 구도를 만들 것을 제안했다. 이 전략은 유비가 나아갈 방향을 제시했다.
Liu Bei invited Zhuge Liang to leave the mountains and assist him. Zhuge Liang was moved by Liu Bei's sincerity and decided to leave his secluded life to help Liu Bei realize his ambitions. From then on, Zhuge Liang became Liu Bei's most trusted military strategist.
유비는 제갈량에게 산을 내려와 자신을 도와달라고 청했다. 제갈량은 유비의 진심에 감동하여 은둔 생활을 청산하고 유비가 야망을 실현하는 것을 돕기로 결심했다. 그 후로 제갈량은 유비의 가장 신뢰받는 군사가 되었다.
The story of Three Visits to the Thatched Cottage became a model in Chinese history of treating worthy people with respect. It tells us that only by sincerely treating talented people can we obtain their support and help.
