Chapter 19: Arriving at Vulture Peak
제19장: 영취산에 도착하다
After overcoming countless hardships and dangers, the four of them finally saw the Vulture Peak. This was the place where the Buddha lived and where Tang Sanzang was to obtain the scriptures.
수많은 고난과 위험을 극복한 끝에 네 사람은 마침내 영취산을 보았습니다. 이곳은 부처님이 계신 곳이자 당삼장이 불경을 얻어야 할 곳이었습니다.
They arrived at the Great Thunder Temple and met the Tathagata Buddha. The Buddha gave them the scriptures, but the two disciples Ananda and Kasyapa who guarded the scriptures demanded that they exchange them for a purple-gold alms bowl. Tang Sanzang hadn't brought any gifts, so he could only give them the alms bowl.
그들은 대뇌음사에 도착하여 석가모니 부처님을 만났습니다. 부처님은 그들에게 불경을 주었지만, 불경을 지키던 두 제자 아난과 가섭은 자금발우를 내놓으라고 요구했습니다. 당삼장은 선물을 가져오지 않아 발우만 줄 수밖에 없었습니다.
The four obtained the scriptures and began their journey back. However, after walking for a while, they discovered that the scriptures were actually blank! It turned out that Ananda and Kasyapa wanted to give them wordless scriptures. When the Buddha learned about this, he exchanged them for the true scriptures with words.
네 사람은 불경을 얻어 돌아가는 길을 떠났습니다. 그러나 얼마 쯤 가다 보니 불경이 사실 백지라는 것을 알게 되었습니다! 아난과 가섭이 글자 없는 불경을 준 것이었습니다. 부처님은 이 사실을 알고 글자가 있는 진짜 불경으로 바꿔 주었습니다.
