Chapter 2: Finding a Master
제2장: 스승을 찾아서
Although the Monkey King lived a happy life, he was always worried in his heart. One day, he thought about how he would eventually grow old and die, and he couldn't help shedding tears. An old monkey told him: "In the distant west, there are three immortals who can teach you the magic of eternal life."
원숭이 왕은 행복한 삶을 살았지만 마음속으로는 항상 걱정이 있었습니다. 어느 날 그는 자신이 결국 늙고 죽게 될 것이라는 생각에 눈물을 흘리지 않을 수 없었습니다. 한 늙은 원숭이가 그에게 말했습니다: "먼 서쪽에 영생의 마법을 가르쳐 줄 수 있는 세 명의 신선이 있습니다."
The Monkey King immediately decided to travel west to find a teacher. He made a raft and crossed the sea, arriving at a mysterious place. After asking around, he finally found a Taoist master named Patriarch Bodhi.
원숭이 왕은 즉시 스승을 찾아 서쪽으로 떠나기로 결심했습니다. 그는 뗏목을 만들어 바다를 건너 신비한 곳에 도착했습니다. 이곳저곳 물어본 끝에 그는 마침내 보리조사라는 도교 스승을 찾았습니다.
Seeing that the Monkey King was clever and smart, Patriarch Bodhi decided to accept him as a student. The Monkey King was very happy and began learning magic from then on. Patriarch Bodhi gave him a name — Sun Wukong.
원숭이 왕이 영리하고 똑똑하다는 것을 보고 보리조사는 그를 제자로 받아들이기로 결정했습니다. 원숭이 왕은 매우 기뻐하며 그때부터 마법을 배우기 시작했습니다. 보리조사는 그에게 손오공이라는 이름을 지어주었습니다.
Sun Wukong studied very diligently. He not only learned seventy-two transformations but also learned the somersault cloud, which could travel fifty-four thousand miles in a single jump. A few years later, he had mastered many magical arts and became a true immortal.
손오공은 매우 열심히 공부했습니다. 그는 72가지 변신술뿐만 아니라 한 번의 도약으로 5만 4천 리를 갈 수 있는 근두운도 배웠습니다. 몇 년 후, 그는 많은 마법 기술을 통달하고 진정한 신선이 되었습니다.
