Chapter 11: The Passage of Time
제11장: 세월의 흐름
I looked at Run Tu, thinking about the passage of time.
나는 룬투를 바라보며 세월의 흐름에 대해 생각했다.
Twenty years, this is a very long time. Twenty years ago, I was a child, and Run Tu was a child too. We played together, grew up together. Twenty years later today, we have both changed.
20년, 이것은 매우 긴 시간이다. 20년 전, 나는 아이였고 룬투도 아이였다. 우리는 함께 놀았고, 함께 자랐다. 20년 후 오늘, 우리는 둘 다 변했다.
I studied, took university exams, and found a job in the city. Run Tu stayed in the countryside, got married, had children, and made a living farming. Our fates are completely different.
나는 공부를 하고, 대학 시험을 치르고, 도시에서 직장을 구했다. 룬투는 시골에 남아 결혼을 하고, 아이를 낳고, 농사를 지으며 생계를 꾸렸다. 우리의 운명은 완전히 다르다.
Run Tu looked at me and said, "Young Master, you are now a learned person, you will surely have a great future."
룬투는 나를 바라보며 말했다. "도련님, 당신은 이제 학식 있는 분이시니 분명 훌륭한 미래가 있을 겁니다."
I smiled and said, "What great future, I'm just making a living."
나는 미소를 지으며 말했다. "무슨 훌륭한 미래, 그냥 먹고사는 거지."
He said, "Being able to work in the city is already very good. We farmers spend our whole lives working in the fields, without much of a future."
그는 말했다. "도시에서 일할 수 있다는 건 이미 아주 좋은 일입니다. 우리 농부들은 평생 밭에서 일하며 보내는데, 별 미래가 없죠."
I didn't know what to say, just nodded.
나는 무슨 말을 해야 할지 몰라 그저 고개를 끄덕였다.
Time passes, and everyone walks their own path, everyone has their own destiny.
시간은 흐르고, 누구나 자신의 길을 걷고, 누구나 자신의 운명을 가지고 있다.
