Chapter 4: Childhood Memories
제4장: 어린 시절의 추억
I stood in the courtyard of the old house, recalling scenes from my childhood.
나는 낡은 집 마당에 서서 어린 시절의 장면들을 회상했다.
At that time, our family was relatively wealthy. Father was a scholar with some reputation in the county seat. Mother was also virtuous, taking care of everything in the family. Every day, I played in the courtyard or read in the study.
그 당시 우리 가족은 비교적 부유했다. 아버지는 군청 소재지에서 어느 정도 명성이 있는 학자였다. 어머니 또한 덕망이 있었고 집안의 모든 일을 돌보셨다. 매일 나는 마당에서 놀거나 서재에서 책을 읽었다.
I remember one summer afternoon when my friends and I were catching badgers in the melon fields. We ran happily, our laughter traveling far. Suddenly, a badger jumped out from the melon patch. We chased it, running all the way to the riverside.
어느 여름 오후 친구들과 내가 수박밭에서 오소리를 잡고 있었던 것을 기억한다. 우리는 즐겁게 달렸고, 웃음소리는 멀리 퍼졌다. 갑자기 오소리 한 마리가 수박밭에서 뛰쳐나왔다. 우리는 그것을 쫓아 강가까지 계속 달렸다.
At that time, I was so happy, so carefree. I never thought that one day I would leave this home, leave this familiar place.
그 당시 나는 정말 행복했고, 정말 근심 걱정이 없었다. 언젠가 내가 이 집을 떠나고, 이 익숙한 곳을 떠나게 될 것이라고는 생각지 못했다.
Now, I have returned, but everything has changed.
이제 나는 돌아왔지만, 모든 것이 변했다.
