Chapter 7: Liu Bei Takes Yizhou
第七章：劉備、益州を取る
After the Battle of Red Cliffs, Liu Bei's forces grew, but he still lacked his own base of operations. Zhuge Liang suggested that Liu Bei seize Yizhou and use it as a foundation to realize the plan of dividing the realm into three parts.
赤壁の戦いの後、劉備の勢力は拡大したが、彼はまだ自分の活動拠点を欠いていた。諸葛亮は劉備に対し、益州を奪取し、それを天下三分の計を実現するための基盤として利用することを提案した。
Yizhou was ruled by Liu Zhang, who was weak and incompetent and could not effectively govern this region. Yizhou's wealth and geographical location were both very suitable as a base. Liu Bei decided to seize this opportunity.
益州は劉璋によって統治されていたが、彼は弱くて無能であり、この地域を効果的に統治することができなかった。益州の富と地理的位置は、どちらも拠点として非常に適していた。劉備はこの機会を掴むことに決めた。
Liu Bei led his army into Yizhou, ostensibly to help Liu Zhang resist external enemies, but actually to seize Yizhou. This plan was somewhat unrighteous, but in chaotic times, survival was most important.
劉備は軍を率いて益州に入った。表向きは劉璋が外敵に抵抗するのを助けるためであったが、実際には益州を奪取するためであった。この計画は多少不義であったが、乱世においては生き残ることが最も重要であった。
In the battles in Yizhou, Liu Bei demonstrated exceptional military abilities. He captured cities and territories, quickly controlling Yizhou's major cities. Liu Zhang was forced to surrender, and Yizhou became Liu Bei's territory.
益州での戦いにおいて、劉備は並外れた軍事能力を発揮した。彼は都市や領土を攻略し、急速に益州の主要都市を支配した。劉璋は降伏を余儀なくされ、益州は劉備の領土となった。
After seizing Yizhou, Liu Bei began to govern this place. He appointed talented people to official positions, reduced taxes, and developed the economy. Under Liu Bei's governance, Yizhou gradually regained prosperity.
益州を奪取した後、劉備はこの地を統治し始めた。彼は有能な人材を官職に任命し、税を減らし、経済を発展させた。劉備の統治の下、益州は徐々に繁栄を取り戻した。
However, seizing Yizhou also caused Liu Bei's brotherly friendship with Liu Zhang to break. This became a lifelong regret for Liu Bei. But to realize greater ideals, he had to make such a choice.
しかし、益州の奪取はまた、劉備と劉璋の兄弟のような友情を壊すことになった。これは劉備にとって生涯の心残りとなった。しかし、より大きな理想を実現するために、彼はそのような選択をしなければならなかった。
