Wuthering Heights - Bab 20

Kedamaian di Padang Rumput
Many years later, Mrs. Dean sat on the hill behind Wuthering Heights, watching the sunset over the moors. She was very old now, her white hair blowing in the wind, but her mind was still clear, and her heart was at peace.
Bertahun-tahun kemudian, Nyonya Dean duduk di bukit di belakang Wuthering Heights, menyaksikan matahari terbenam di atas padang rumput. Dia sudah sangat tua sekarang, rambut putihnya tertiup angin, tetapi pikirannya masih jernih, dan hatinya damai.
She thought about all the years she had spent at Wuthering Heights, all the people she had known, and all the stories she had witnessed. She remembered the wild, passionate love of Catherine and Heathcliff, and she remembered the gentle, enduring love of Cathy and Hareton.
Two very different kinds of love, but both powerful in their own way. Catherine and Heathcliff's love had been destructive, burning everything in its path. Cathy and Hareton's love was healing, bringing life and hope to everyone around them.
Below her, she could see the children playing in the garden. They were the great-grandchildren of the people whose stories she told, and they knew nothing of the darkness of the past. To them, Wuthering Heights was just a home, a place of warmth and love.
Mrs. Dean smiled. The cycle of hatred and revenge had finally been broken. Heathcliff's anger had died with him, and the new generation had chosen love instead of hate.
Nyonya Dean tersenyum.
The wind blew across the moors, carrying the scent of wildflowers and the sound of distant birds. It was a peaceful sound, very different from the howling wind that had once beaten against Wuthering Heights on stormy nights.
Mrs. Dean stood up slowly and made her way back to the house. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the land. But the shadows were not dark and threatening. They were just shadows, marking the end of another beautiful day.
Inside Wuthering Heights, the family was gathering for dinner. There was laughter and conversation, the warmth of fire and the smell of good food. Mrs. Dean joined them, happy to be part of this peaceful, loving family.
She thought one last time of Catherine and Heathcliff. Perhaps their ghosts did walk on the moors, as the villagers whispered. But if they did, they were no longer restless and angry. They had found peace at last, watching over the living, content in knowing that their story had not ended in darkness.
Wuthering Heights was finally at peace, and the moors were peaceful, and love had triumphed over hate.
The End.
Tamat.
