Chapitre 12 : Demander de l'aide
With no other options, Emma decided to ask Rodolphe for money. She still believed that he had loved her once, and she hoped that he would help her in her time of need. She traveled to his estate, her heart pounding with anxiety.
Sans autres options, Emma décida de demander de l'argent à Rodolphe. Elle croyait encore qu'il l'avait aimée autrefois, et elle espérait qu'il l'aiderait dans son moment de besoin. Elle se rendit à son domaine, le cœur battant d'anxiété.
Rodolphe was cold and distant. He remembered Emma fondly but had no intention of lending her money. He made excuses about his own financial difficulties and refused to help her. Emma was devastated by his rejection.

Desperate, Emma went to see Leon, but the young lawyer had no money either. He was deeply in debt himself and could not help Emma despite his love for her. Emma felt abandoned by both men who had promised her so much.

Emma returned to Yonville with nothing. Her humiliation was complete, and she felt that she had lost everything—her money, her dignity, and her hope for the future. The only thing she had left was her despair.
Emma retourna à Yonville avec rien. Son humiliation était complète, et elle sentait qu'elle avait tout perdu : son argent, sa dignité et son espoir en l'avenir. La seule chose qui lui restait était son désespoir.
