Chapitre 8 : Le rétablissement d'Emma
After months of illness, Emma slowly began to recover. Charles was relieved and devoted himself to her care, taking her to the theater in Rouen to lift her spirits. He hoped that this change of scenery would help her forget her sadness.
Après des mois de maladie, Emma commença lentement à se rétablir. Charles était soulagé et se consacra à ses soins, l'emmenant au théâtre à Rouen pour lui remonter le moral. Il espérait que ce changement de décor l'aiderait à oublier sa tristesse.
In Rouen, Emma met Leon again by chance. The lawyer had also moved to the city, and the two were reunited. Emma was surprised to find that her feelings for Leon were as strong as they had been before.
À Rouen, Emma rencontra à nouveau Léon par hasard. L'avocat avait également déménagé en ville, et les deux furent réunis. Emma fut surprise de constater que ses sentiments pour Léon étaient aussi forts qu'avant.
Leon had matured during their years apart, but his feelings for Emma had not changed. He still loved her and regretted that he had never expressed his love when they had met in Yonville. Emma, seeking comfort and romance, responded to his attention.
Léon avait mûri pendant leurs années de séparation, mais ses sentiments pour Emma n'avaient pas changé. Il l'aimait toujours et regrettait de n'avoir jamais exprimé son amour lorsqu'ils s'étaient rencontrés à Yonville. Emma, cherchant réconfort et romantisme, répondit à son attention.
Seeing Leon gave Emma a new sense of hope. Perhaps her life was not destined to be boring and empty after all. She began to imagine a new romance that would finally bring her the happiness she had always desired.
