Charles Bovary was a quiet and shy young man who had just become a doctor. He moved to the small village of Tostes in France to start his medical practice. Though not very intelligent or ambitious, he was kind and hardworking.
Charles Bovary était un jeune homme calme et timide qui venait de devenir médecin. Il s'installa dans le petit village de Tostes en France pour commencer sa pratique médicale. Bien qu'il ne fût ni très intelligent ni ambitieux, il était gentil et travailleur.
At a local wedding, Charles met Emma Rouault, the beautiful daughter of a farmer. He was immediately attracted to her gentle smile and graceful manners. After treating her father's broken leg, Charles began visiting the Rouault farm regularly.
Lors d'un mariage local, Charles rencontra Emma Rouault, la belle fille d'un fermier. Il fut immédiatement attiré par son doux sourire et ses manières gracieuses. Après avoir soigné la jambe cassée de son père, Charles commença à rendre visite régulièrement à la ferme Rouault.
Emma had spent most of her life in a convent school, where she had read romantic novels that filled her head with dreams of love and adventure. She was disappointed by the quiet life in the countryside and longed for something more exciting and passionate.
Emma avait passé la majeure partie de sa vie dans un couvent, où elle avait lu des romans romantiques qui remplissaient sa tête de rêves d'amour et d'aventure. Elle était déçue par la vie tranquille à la campagne et aspirait à quelque chose de plus excitant et passionné.
Despite their different personalities, Charles and Emma fell in love and decided to marry. Charles was delighted to have found such a beautiful wife, while Emma hoped that marriage would bring her the romance and excitement she had read about in books.
Malgré leurs personnalités différentes, Charles et Emma tombèrent amoureux et décidèrent de se marier. Charles était ravi d'avoir trouvé une si belle épouse, tandis qu'Emma espérait que le mariage lui apporterait le romantisme et l'excitation qu'elle avait lus dans les livres.
