Chapter 9: The Badger Incident
Chapitre 9 : L'Incident du Blaireau
I remember one year when we found a badger in the melon field.
Je me souviens d'une année où nous avons trouvé un blaireau dans le champ de melons.
It was a hot afternoon, and we were cooling off in the melon shed. Suddenly, I saw a small black shadow moving in the melon field. I looked carefully and saw it was a badger, stealing our watermelons.
C'était un après-midi chaud, et nous nous rafraîchissions dans l'abri à melons. Soudain, j'ai vu une petite ombre noire bouger dans le champ de melons. J'ai regardé attentivement et j'ai vu que c'était un blaireau, volant nos pastèques.
I shouted, "Run Tu, there's a badger!"
J'ai crié : "Run Tu, il y a un blaireau !"
Run Tu jumped up and said, "Chase it!"
Run Tu a bondi et a dit : "Attrape-le !"
We chased the badger, running all the way to the riverside. The badger jumped into the river and swam to the other side. We stood by the river, watching it run away.
Nous avons poursuivi le blaireau, courant jusqu'au bord de la rivière. Le blaireau a sauté dans la rivière et a nagé de l'autre côté. Nous sommes restés au bord de la rivière, le regardant s'enfuir.
Run Tu said, "Tomorrow we'll come to catch it again."
Run Tu a dit : "Demain, nous viendrons l'attraper à nouveau."
The next day, we went to the melon field early to wait for the badger. We waited and waited, waited all day, but it didn't come. We were very disappointed, but there was nothing we could do.
Le lendemain, nous sommes allés tôt au champ de melons pour attendre le blaireau. Nous avons attendu et attendu, attendu toute la journée, mais il n'est pas venu. Nous étions très déçus, mais nous ne pouvions rien faire.
Now when I think of this incident, I still smile. At that time, we were so innocent, so happy.
