Chapter 20: Call Me Ishmael
And so ends the story of the Pequod and the hunt for Moby Dick. I, Ishmael, am the only survivor to tell this tale. The ocean gave me back my life, though it took so many others.
This story is not just about a whale and a captain's revenge. It is about the dangerous power of obsession and the beauty and terror of the natural world. It is a warning about letting our desires control us.
I have left the sea and returned to land, but the memory of that voyage will stay with me forever. The white whale still swims in the depths, and somewhere, another sailor may be hearing its call and beginning his own dangerous hunt.
