We were taken to the nearest port, where we recovered from our ordeal. The story of the Pequod and Moby Dick spread quickly, and many sailors came to hear our tale.

I thought often of Captain Ahab and the crew who had not survived. Their obsession with revenge had led to destruction, and many good men had died because of one man's madness.
