Chapter 10: The Day of Trial
Raskolnikov was brought to court. The judge and jury heard his confession and also listened to his explanation of his criminal motives.
Raskolnikov admitted his crime, but he believed that what he did was for a higher goal. However, the court didn't accept his explanation.
In the end, Raskolnikov was sentenced to exile in Siberia. He had to leave St. Petersburg and go to a distant place to serve his sentence.
