Raskolnikov hid the stolen items under a stone by the river. He returned to his room with his heart beating fast, fearing someone would discover his crime.

A few days later, the police began to investigate this case. Raskolnikov was very nervous. Every time he saw the police, he felt they knew everything. He even considered surrendering once, but finally didn't have the courage.

This inner torture made him sleepless at night, and his body became weaker. His mental state began to deteriorate.
